Bottom line: Ascent's PEAK tracking actually made time-sensitive runs less of a crapshoot than the brokers I used before. After twenty years running on the West Coast, the live location updates and believable ETAs - plus a rep who picked up when I called - were the single thing that won me over. They had one paperwork hiccup but fixed it fast, so 4/5 and I'll be using them on jobs that can't be late.

I've used Kenco for about 18 months. My old local 3PL on the West Coast was scrappy but fast - one call and they'd reroute a load; Kenco's tech gives better inventory visibility, yet getting human exceptions handled often feels like pushing paperwork uphill. After two decades driving and running my own trucks, I want both the dashboards and someone who can actually move a pallet on short notice, so I'm genuinely torn.

Two years with Universal and their pay cycle made me stick around. They run direct deposit within 48 hours and the paperwork is always clean - no weird deductions or delayed checks. After 20 years on the road out West, that kind of fast, predictable payment is everything.

This morning I missed a turn outside Salt Lake and the Ruan app re-routed me in under a minute and pinged dispatch so I didn't have to call. I've been running trucks on the West Coast for 20 years, and that quick auto-update - no extra paperwork or dispatcher hold-up - actually saved me an hour. Maps lag a bit in sketchy service, but the offline POD capture worked when I needed it, so I'm giving it 4 stars.

Bottom line: getting set up with Scotlynn was quicker than I expected. Their onboarding team moved my carrier packet in a day - insurance and authority checks cleared fast - so I had a refrigerated run lined up within a week. After twenty years running on the West Coast, I appreciated having one person who actually followed up; not perfect, but solid 4/5.

Used it for three years and the mobile app is my go-to between runs. After twenty years on the road, the quick photo-to-POD upload that auto-syncs with dispatch is the one feature that actually saves me time - takes seconds, not minutes, at every stop. Battery sap is minimal and the signature capture rarely glitches. Simple, but it keeps my day moving.

I've used Capstone Logistics for about three years. Last month they rerouted a refrigerated grocery load to the wrong distribution center, it sat on a hot dock for 18 hours and by the time we got it back half the cartons were thawed - retailer billed me $1,500 and refused the rest, cost me a weekend of work trying to sort claims. Customer service sent a boilerplate apology and a $200 credit; unacceptable.

Bottom line: KLN cleared my last Asia shipment through customs so fast I had a trailer waiting instead of wasting a day at the dock. I’ve been running trucks on the West Coast for 20 years and the old broker I used would spring holds on me; KLN’s customs team caught a bad HTS code a week before arrival and fixed it, which saved me demurrage and a ton of headaches. Their proactive paperwork check is the one thing that made the switch worth it.

Twenty years behind the wheel on the West Coast taught me to expect tight schedules and no surprises. One Forward Air run from Oakland to an inland DC was supposed to be a quick in-and-out, but their terminal never scanned the paperwork and the trailer sat for six hours. Dispatch was friendly but basically powerless; we finally moved it late and the consignee got everything fine, so credit where it's due. Still - I lost half a day's pay and some customer goodwill; they’re solid when it works, maddening when the small stuff falls apart.

Thought Arrive had my back until they reassigned my Fresno-to-Seattle load an hour before pickup with one text: 'load reassigned.' I burned 200 miles and two tanks of diesel getting there, then the dispatcher shrugged and said they'd sort the detention pay later; that 'later' still hasn't happened. I've run trucks on the West Coast for 20 years and that single screw-up cost me a week's pay in fuel and empty miles.

I've used PSA BDP for about three years. Compared to the regional brokers I ran with before, their customs team was night-and-day - they walked me through a messy hazardous-goods hold and had the load released the same day, which actually saved me a weekend of downtime. Communication can lag occasionally, but that one reliable customs contact made the switch worth it for my West Coast runs.
