When a last-minute shipment of power-steering racks was rerouted and sat in customs for 48 hours, we were down to one truck and cursing every hour. They scrambled and got it on an overnight flight that saved the run, but that kind of rescue feels intermittent - after 20 years behind the wheel in the Midwest I admire when they pull off miracles, yet I wouldn’t bet my payroll on them every week.

Bottom line: their mobile app cost me a delivery window and landed me a detention charge. The app froze during check-in and wouldn't attach POD photos - kept looping me back to login while dispatch couldn't confirm delivery, so I sat at the dock for an extra two hours and didn't get paid on time.

Twenty years hauling loads across the Midwest taught me to treasure anything that cuts idle time; FedEx Logistics' e-docs and dock barcode check-in routinely got me in and out in under 20 minutes. Not flawless every stop, but when that digital paperwork lines up it shaves hours off a week.

Bottom line: getting onboarded with Universal Logistics was a grind - paperwork, W‑9s and insurance proofs bounced around for ten days with no clear point of contact. Once a dispatcher finally called the Midwest lanes opened up and the loads were decent, so I’m left annoyed by the slow start but actually working and making miles.

...support was hit-or-miss - dispatch could be great getting a load rolling, but anything involving temperature paperwork or billing turned into a game of phone tag with three different reps while a reefer sat idling. After twenty years driving around the Midwest I'm honestly split: equipment and lanes are fine, but the customer service holes make certain runs more headache than they're worth.

Last Tuesday at the St. Louis terminal my two-hour appointment turned into a five-hour wait after the online slot showed “confirmed,” no dock was ready and the terminal phone never answered. That busted schedule cost me a day’s pay, a missed delivery window for a retail customer and extra detention - Forward Air’s appointment system cost me time and money.

For three years I’ve run the PSA BDP app on my phone during hauls. It gives solid live tracking and the map view actually saves me from calling the office, but the scanner freezes, push alerts are often late, and forced logins mid-route drive me nuts after two decades behind the wheel.

Bottom line: Landstar's customer support cost me a load and a week's pay. I was rerouted by an agent who stopped answering texts, their app showed me as en route while I sat in Chicago piling up detention fees, and after 20 years driving in the Midwest I've never seen such a black hole of communication - no callbacks, no escalation, just fees and silence.

Last Tuesday my load sat in the yard five hours because the GEODIS portal bumped my appointment time without notifying anyone. After twenty years behind the wheel in the Midwest I’ll say their tracking app can be a lifesaver for PODs and faster invoicing, but the ETA updates are flaky and when that one feature fails it ruins the whole run - helpful on paper, maddening in practice.
