Last spring a time-sensitive pallet bound for a big-box in Toledo got rerouted at the last minute and DHL managed to slot a same-day pickup that kept the delivery window intact. Our previous carrier would have shrugged and left us juggling drivers; with DHL someone picked up the phone, adjusted the route, and sent the updated ETA. The single thing that made me happy was their consistent two-hour pickup windows - no more ’all day’ vague slots that kill productivity. I’ve been managing a 25-truck fleet in the Midwest for four years, and that predictability shaved deadhead miles and eased driver frustration. Billing still has a few odd line items, so it isn’t flawless, but for on-the-ground pickups they clearly outperformed our old provider.
