All 19 reviews →Their customs paperwork cost me nearly $2,000 in detention and rework - worst part of the whole load. I dispatch five trucks in the Pacific Northwest and after four years I thought I knew the drill, but Universal's broker used the wrong HS code, our driver sat at the border for 18 hours and the receiver refused the load. Their reps couldn't give a straight answer and we ate the fines; not using them for cross-border lanes again.
Bottom line: the mobile app mostly works but drives me nuts with flaky GPS and slow load refreshes. I run three trucks on the West Coast and it's great for grabbing a load or snapping paperwork, yet route hints vanish mid-trip and push alerts either flood me or go quiet - handy when it behaves, maddening when it doesn't.
I've used Universal Logistics Holdings for three years. Compared with the national brokers we used before, their dedicated transportation group delivers markedly better ETA updates and cleaner handoffs; after 12 years managing a 55-truck fleet in the Southeast, that predictability materially reduced our detention and idle time at docks. My only real gripe is intermittent reliance on third-party carriers that pushed up costs and introduced variable equipment quality, so while service reliability improved, expense control still needs work.
