Orval Fisher's review of Penske Logistics

...thought getting into Penske would just be paperwork and a quick orientation, but the first week felt sideways. They've got good trainers and the dispatch app works once you're logged in, yet the fuel card and payroll didn't sync for me and a bunch of guys in the yard down here in the Midwest - led to some unpaid miles and extra phone calls. It gets better after a couple weeks if you stick with the in-person help, but don't expect everything to be ready on day one.

Bottom line: Penske's visibility and ETA accuracy beat the 3PL we used before, and that alone cured a chronic detention headache. We switched after a year of fights over missed windows; their portal gives lane-level ETAs that actually matched what drivers were seeing on the road. After 28 years managing a 150-truck fleet in the Northeast, I can tell when tech talk is fluff - this wasn't; detention hours fell about 40% in the first three months because we could plan docks and drivers instead of guessing. Their team didn't fix every little problem, but the one thing that mattered most to my operation was solved quickly and it freed us to focus on driver retention and route efficiency. If your previous provider gave you fuzzy arrival times like ours did, Penske's clarity is worth the conversation.

Last spring I pulled into a dock and was told my pallet wasn’t on the manifest and they’d already started loading without me. One Penske planner jumped on the phone, pulled up their tracking screen, proved the pallet was on my truck, and got the dock to stop the conveyor - saved me hours of back-and-forth. I’m a company driver on the West Coast with three years under my belt; their people moving fast made the day, even if the app can be slow sometimes.

Last month, when a major retailer canceled my return load, Penske stepped in with a last-minute dedicated pickup and a flat, itemized rate that didn’t sneak in surprise fees. I’m an owner-operator with two trucks and 30 years on the West Coast, and though their rates ran a bit higher than some brokers, the up-front pricing and prompt pay made it worth the 4/5.
